What does 504 mean?

Section 504 of the Americans with Disabilities Act, 1973 is a civil rights code that prohibits discrimination against individuals who are identified as having a disability that interferes with optimal student learning.  Disabilities covered under section 504 include many learning disorders and certain medical conditions such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.  Qualified students may be eligible to receive accommodations in their educational program aimed at increasing their performance and school success.

Is your student struggling at school with classwork, performing poorly on tests and assignments, experiencing low self-esteem, and/or having difficulty completing homework?

Have you tried talking to your child's teacher and school administrators about these issues only to have them tell you that your student is doing "fine" at school?

Do you feel that your concerns are not being addressed or not taken seriously?

If the answer to any of these questions is "yes," then 504 and More may be able to help you obtain and establish resources that will increase your child's performance both at school and at home.
